My Publix Organizer—A Lesson in Making the Most of a Great Store Part 2

I recently created a Publix organizer to carry in my purse. I thought going over the parts of the organizer might help you get more out of your Publix shopping.

Warning: Some aspects of this series are more advanced Publix couponing. If reading this post gives you a headache, I would recommend bookmarking it and coming back to it later.

Section 2: Rain Checks

When I was a new couponer, I often came home discouraged, because the store didn't have something in stock. Then I learned about the benefits of a rain check. Now, I'm rarely disappointed when something is out of stock.

Points to remember:

• If the item you are looking for is out of stock, you have the right to request a rain check (Even if it's only a specific flavor or variety).
• Publix rain checks do not have an expiration date. Unless you are in a hurry to purchase an item, you can hold the rain check and use it when it best compliments your budget, or your $ off $$ coupons.
• Don't hold onto your rain checks for too long. Your coupons may expire, and you want to make sure that you are not being an unreasonable customer.

My Publix Organizer—A Lesson in Making the Most of a Great Store Part 1

Section 1: Competitor's Coupons

One of the reasons that I love shopping Publix so much is that they accept competitor's coupons. Any time another grocery store in the area runs a $ off $$ coupon, I cut it out and put it in this section.

Remember, anytime you have a purchase minimum, the minimum is before coupons. For example, you are required to spend $10 to receive a penny item. If your subtotal before coupons is $10, your post-coupon total does not matter. Theoretically, you could have a $5 off $50 competitor's coupon. You could use $45 in coupons, plus the $5 competitor's coupon, and get your order for free.

Remember to think creatively about who is a competitor. Any grocery store in your area is a competitor. Competitor's in our area would include:

Kroger

HG Hill

Food Lion

Harris Teeter

And…

Whole Foods

Gordon Food Service

Sam's

Costco

Etc…

 

 

 

 

A Penny Item Plan

I just love the Publix Penny item.  This week's item is reported to be bleach, and I'm all out!  I put together a very small Publix shop, just to pick up the penny item.  I thought you might enjoy seeing my plan.  Don't get discouraged if you don't have the right coupons to duplicate the shop.  It is just an example of how you can pick out the best deals to have a pre-coupon total of $10 and pick up a penny item for a small out of pocket expense.

Publix Final Wow!

 

 

I have been anticipating this Publix shop for several days, and it did not disappoint.  My hubby and I made a date of it.  We each took a cart and checked out separately to get two penny items.  Here is what our transactions looked like:

Kudos, BTW to the Royal Oaks Publix, which was well-stocked for a Sunday evening.  They are also extremely good about checking the back if they happen to run out of something on the shelf.
